When the delivery status displays 'sent', it means that the message has been sent to the mobile operator of the recipient. Once the message is delivered to the recipient's actual mobile phone, the delivery status will display 'delivered'. Sometimes, if the recipient's mobile phone is out of network, turned off, or if the mobile operator is dealing with hefty traffic, the message is delayed and the mobile operator waits for better network conditions to resend the message.
